Decide to make this pie this weekend. I have never had it, nor have a desire to try Apple Pie and cheese together.
The recipe I made called for the cheese to be shredded and included within the top, and bottom crusts.
I have read some recipes where people would place 1/4" slabs of cheddar cheese within the filling of the pie, instead of the crusts. I tried a small piece of raw dough to see what kind of cheese flavor it had, but I couldn't taste anything. More of the sweet/salty taste, and not so much the cheese. Maybe it'll stand out more once baked.
I should have tried it, but without cutting into the final product, not sure how that could have been done. I gave it to a fellow co-worker, so he'll let me know if it's a yay or nay with the wife.
Has anyone actually made this type of pie before? How did you like it?
Is it really that popular??
Here is a picture of the finished product.
