I was looking through my Grandmother's recipe book and came across an old recipe of her's for Apple Scones.

Ingredients
9oz cooking apples, peeled and cored
8oz self raising flour
1tsp baking powder
2oz butter
2oz caster sugar (fine sugar)
2tsbp milk

Glaze
1fl oz milk
1oz Demerara sugar

Method
  • grease a baking sheet and pre-heat the oven to 200C (400F)
  • finely shop the apples
  • sift the flour and baking powder in a bowl
  • rub in the butter and sugar
  • stir in chopped apple
  • mix to a soft dough with milk
  • shape on board to a circle about 3/4 inch thick
  • place in the baking sheet and cut into 8 wedges (and probably separate them ?)
  • Brush with milk and then sprinkle with sugar (this is the glaze bit)
  • Bake for approx. 20-25 mins
  • Can be frozen.
Sounds like an interesting recipe!

Great recipe, I like the fact it calls for only for just a few ingredients, thanks for making the instructions even more simple :) I might give this one a try, it sounds so simple! These sound perfect for breakfast.

This sounds lovely! I'm partial to a nice scone, and I love old recipes just as much as the newer and fancier ones! ;)

I think a few raisins or sultanas would be lovely too, and maybe a dash of cinnamon? Oh no, I'm over-complicating it now!!
