How to Fix Flavorless Biscotti

I am really fond of biscotti. I have baked them for a long time, However at times my biscotti have no flavor at all even though I am using all the right ingredients. They look great but the flavor just is not there.
Some recipes do not include any butter or oil so I am wondering if this could be the case?
I wonder if anyone has ever had this problem and how it was solved
Any suggestion will be appreciated
