Hi all,

I have started making cakesicles and as the candy melts are quite pricey, I am looking for an alternative for the time being.

Are there any UK companies/ brands that are oil based so I can just buy a white pack of candy melts rather than a handful?

Thanks

Wilton and Americolor both make candy color. Americolor is the better brand. But you should be warned that candy melts are an extremely poor quality product. They aren’t known for melting well, coating well, taking color well, or even tasting good. Could maybe wasting your money trying to color them yourself.

Thank you for the advise. What would you recommend, just buying the colour melts as they are?

yes absolutely buy them already colored. Candy melts melt so poorly because they’re really inexpensive candy product, making them extremely difficult to keep fluid. Unlike real chocolate, they can’t be reheated more than once. The window to color to get the shade right is then very small because you have to work extremely fast otherwise it’s going to cool hard nap do you have to reheat. And your candy melts are ruined.
It’s a product on the very bottom rung of quality in every aspect.

These cake pops are low end product to begin with. so don’t over think it.

So just buy them in bulk already colored. Also you have to remember that coloring it yourself is adding another step in labor. Labor is time. Time is money. And product is not a money maker.
