I know that carob can be a good substitute for chocolate for those who are allergic and was curious if any of you have tried it. I've used it in a few cake recipes (because of having less caffeine) and I can't really tell the difference between chocolate in terms of taste.

I can't say that I've tried it in a cake, but I believe carob chips are available for cookies. You can also use carob in "chocolate" treats for dogs, as they aren't supposed to have real chocolate.

Carob is naturally a lot sweeter than chocolate is, so you do not need nearly as much sugar to sweeten it as plain cocoa. The taste is a little different, but it is a good taste. I think in a recipe, it is less noticeable than if you were to use it for making a cup of hot chocolate.
It is also a lot healthier for you than the highly sweetened chocolate.
