Even now...would you take a baking class?

There is no question that I am learning lots of new things here. In a way this is for me a course in baking. Yet, if I saw an opportunity to do some more hands on baking in a short period of time, I would sign up for a baking class. I think I would especially be interested in pastry making since I have never really ventured much down that path. Further, I would love to produce some of those decorative cakes that are pretty just to look at.

What about you? Would you take a baking class?

I definitely would as there are always things to learn, new techniques or how to use equipment efficiently. I'm quite bad at whisking and found that using a certain bowls can make a difference. You can never 100% predict how things will come out of the oven and it's good to see how others do things as well.

I would for sure take one! Probably try to convince my friends into it. At least, if it's not toooo expensive. It would be loads of fun and a way to get out of the house and hopefully learn new tricks! I am bad at whisking too. Any attempt to whisk whipped cream without a mixer took me at least twenty to thirty minutes of aggravating whisking work. A good teacher could actually correct this. :)

It is always good to learn new things or different style of baking. I would love to take a class if for no other reason to get together with other bakers and compare notes. Unless you are a master bakers a class can be useful to anyone. A class on baking around the world would be really fun.

I would be totally willing to take a baking class, but I am not sure that there are any offered in my area. They have a dinners place around here, but no baking classes that I am aware of.

I would love to take a baking class - there will always be new things, techniques and ideas to learn about. I'd be particularly interested in pastry making - I'm not good at making pastry at all, and I usually rely on buying it pre-made. I'd also be keen on learning patisserie baking; a friend gave me a lovely book for Christmas "Patisserie Made Simple", and I'm hoping to practice at least a few of the recipes in it.

If I had the choice of only one class I could ever take though, it would be in cake decorating. I'd love to become better at this in the future.

I want to have better cake decorating skins and would like to learn some pastry chef techniques. My daughter is 13 so it would be fun to bond with her in a baking class. I am going to look hard and see if there is something that her and I can sign up for during the summer.

Same here. I would love to learn better decorating skills. I'm also not that great with pastry, so sign me up for that one too.

My kids are mostly grown, but my oldest is quite good at baking. She decorates pretty well too.

Definitely. There is always stuff you can learn from an good teacher. One who can be flexible and adaptable to your needs. I have actually been thinking about taking a sourdough class when my health is finally up to it. It would be wonderful to do one of those.

The term "Even Now" threw me off in the title. I don't believe we can afford to stop learning no matter our ages (heck, I'll still be learning stuff when I'm old and grey) so taking a Class? Sure. No problem, especially if it'll help me do better in said topic area. I believe the moment we stop yearning for a learning (yeah I said it) is the moment we cease to progress as human beings.

That being said, I'd take classes on proper pastries, soufflés, and stuff of that like. I feel confident in my other areas.

Without a doubt! I do cooking and baking classes whenever I can. One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to see if there are any cooking or baking classes in the country I'm going to. I feel like it's such a great way to get some cultural immersion, by learning new techniques and recipes unique to a particular place.

I definitely think that that concept of continuous improvement applies here. I'll never believe I know everything so it's always fun to have someone else teach you some new stuff!

I think the chef who says "no" to a cooking class and feels they're above it has moved too high in station. Everyone should be humble to learn and keep expanding your horizons.

It is my dream when I was still young to become a good chef. In fact I want to take up Culinary Art Course in College but my father wants me to take up Accountancy like him. So it never happened and now that I am married already I still dream that if I had the free time and chance I still want to enroll to short term courses for cooking and baking. Studying is a learning process that we can do at all times.

I concur, Amy. Everyday we should be learning, and it's nice to see you didn't let your father dictate your love of hobbies - turn it into a career if you still dream like that, you don't have to sit in accountancy. Save some money, go to school for it - you'll love yourself in the end. And don't use age as a limiter, I know plenty of people in culinary schools who easily range to be 40+ in a 20+ class.

I would definitely take a baking class. I took cake decorating many years back and enjoyed it, but we baked the cakes at home and brought them to class. I'd enjoy learning to make other types of pastries, and think a bread making class and one on using phyllo dough would be interesting.

Definitely. I would love to take a pastry class, also a course specialised on cakes. I would also consider taking a course to learn to decorate cakes like a pro, because I feel that is my weak spot.

I actually think I suck at cake decoration, lol. I definitely need to learn how to do it.
