food coloring?

I've always used the liquid food coloring. I wasn't even aware there was other types. A friend of mine told me the other day there is a paste food coloring and also a type of powder food coloring as well. Apparently there is more of a wider variety in colors of the powders and pastes. Has anyone used these other types before? Do they work well? Which type do you prefer to work with?
