How do you make colorful decorations?

I have seen a lot of nice cakes with awesome decorations and I wonder what's the best was to make colorful decorations.

Depends on the kind of decorations you want to make. You could do great things with colored frosting, and there are a multitude of sprinkles shapes available on the market now. You could also try your hand at gumpaste flowers, which keep for a very long time. It all just depends on your imagination!
