I don’t have a kitchen torch, but I do have a battery operated gas lighter for my candles, Will this work?

Just put the cream burlee under the oven broiler to caramelize the sugar. The lighter will probably not be hot enough. And depending on the fuel, may not be appropriate to use some food.

Mmmm I love crème brûlée! :D

Make sure that the grill (broiler) is very hot and it should work fine. You want to caramelise the sugar quickly before the custard underneath heats up, so it's better to have a very hot direct heat rather than a lower, slower heat.

Let us know how it goes! :)
