Looking for a Red Velvet cake recipe

My daughters birthday is coming up and she happens to love red velvet cake. With boxed cakes, its "hit and miss". Sometimes they are great, other times they are dry and not so great. Does anyone have a homemade recipe for one? Thanks!

The "real" Red Velvet cake (from what I've found in past research) is it is nothing more than German Chocolate Cake with red food coloring. Instead of the coconut/carmel/nut frosting we know on German Chocolate cakes, it is cream cheese frosting.

I've tried this at home before, to test this, and yes, it is pretty much the real thing. Real Red Velvet is supposed to have a slight chocolaty taste to it, and by using German Chocolate cake (minus the frosting) it is pretty much that.
