Hi, I am planning to make a similar cake to this for my boyfriends birthday and was wondering if anyone had any tips or ideas on how to make the ‘pipes’ at the bottom stick on like that.
Blend 50-50 gumpaste and fondant so it will dry hard. Add gel food color. You could use tylose powder and fondant, but getting the amount right is a hassle.
Just roll pieces into logs. Insert a toothpick in the end and shape. Place in cool place like a cake box to dry completely. Usually two days drying time before using.
To make the ‘pipes’ stick, try using a bit of royal icing or buttercream to glue them in place. You can also chill the cake before adding the decorations to help them stick better. If you have edible glue, that works well too. Hope this helps and happy baking!
