Hi everyone!

I’ve been looking into how to make my baked goods stand out, not just through taste but also through packaging. As we all know, packaging plays a huge role in keeping our treats fresh and presenting them well, especially if you're selling them or gifting them.

While researching, I stumbled upon some useful tips on how to manage packaging design costs without sacrificing the quality of the presentation. There’s a great guide I came across that breaks down what affects the costs and how to find the best balance between budget and creativity. You can check it out here: Packaging Design Cost Guide.

I’d love to hear your thoughts or if you have any budget friendly packaging tips for baked goods. What packaging have you found works best for your treats and how do you manage the costs?

Looking forward to your ideas!

the rule of thumb is packaging should be 2 1/2 % of gross sales.
so if your gross yr sales are $200k, the total packaging should be around $5k.

We started out simple, white boxes with a sticker and red ribbon.
White paper bags in 4 sizes.
Handy wax tissues.
Be wary of stocking too small a box, customers will want one cheap item in a box with ribbon to impress someone at your expense.

A 2"x3" box fits 6 truffles at $7.50. Thats a good return on the price of the box,
but if a customer wants a $1.50 muffin in the same box you'll lose big time.

Great topic! Packaging really does make a huge difference in both the appeal and freshness of baked goods. For budget friendly ideas, I’ve found that simple, eco friendly materials like Kraft paper or cardboard boxes work really well. You can easily customize them with labels or stamps to add a personal touch without breaking the bank.

Also, transparent cellophane bags or small clear boxes give a nice look while keeping things affordable, especially for cookies or individual treats. As for managing costs, I try to buy in bulk whenever possible especially for things like tissue paper, ribbons or stickers and I’m careful about selecting packaging that’s functional but not overly fancy. It’s all about finding the right balance between looking professional and keeping things cost-effective.

Would love to hear what other tips you all have!
