I grew up right next door to Nanaimo, BC, so nanaimo bars are first on the list for me, even though I know people eat them all over the place. They're one of my favourite desserts too, I can literally eat a whole pan over the course of a weekend...although I usually try not to do that ;)

Also, my in-laws and most of my immediate family are Quebecois, so there are lots of special treats I only get at family gatherings. Tarte au sucre is one of my all time favourites...I haven't mastered the recipe yet either so when we have it at Easter it's pretty much the best thing ever :)

Do you have any favourite desserts that are specific to a certain area?

I've never heard of either Nanaimo Bars of Tarte au Sucre, but both sound delicious! I'm meant to be avoiding chocolate at the moment though, otherwise I'd give those Nanaimo Bars a go. Are they ever made with white chocolate?

My local regional specialties are Eccles Cakes and Manchester Tart.

Eccles cakes are shortcrust pastry stuffed with spiced dried fruit and topped with sugar:

Manchester Tart is a shortcrust pastry case filled with jam and custard:
