Shortcrust by hand or in machine?

I always make shortcrust in my food processor, and it comes out quite well. I've tried making it by hand but it didn't stick together very well, I'm not sure what I did wrong. Anyway do you think it's better to use a machine or make it by hand? Maybe I should give it another go by hand!

I always do mine by hand.Cool ingredients and hands,and once mixed togther to pastry put in the fridge for half an hour to cool and rest. Perhaps you didnt have quite enough cold water if didnt stick?
