Springform Pan for a regular cake

I baked a cake today in a spring-form pan. Is this normal? I've only ever used them for baking cheesecakes but since my 9in cake pans rusted out and I haven't been able to replace them, I decided I would use the spring-form pan. It came out so beautifully. It cooked perfectly. I just wanted to know if anyone else had done this before. Am I making a big deal out of something everyone else does on a regular?
