Fudge filling

I had a recipe for a chocolate cake that had real a fudge filling between the layers. It was as firm as real fudge and delicious but I have lost the recipe.
It was from a French cookery book that I no longer have.
No internet search has had any results.
I would love to be able to make this cake again.

I don't know that the French make fudge as we know it, it might be firm ganache.
