I want to end up with a thin, no more than 1/4 inch layer of buttercream frosting on the top of my crispy treats. How can I spread a thin layer in the bottom of a 13x9 glass baking dish? I would then put treats on top, cool, cut then invert out.

Use a Wilton #789 tip to apply.

use an offset spatula to smooth and remove any excess.

But the 789 puts down a thin enough layer you won’t have to really remove much. The tip is design to ice the outside of a cake, so puts down a thin layer.

Normally rice crispy treats are drizzled or dipped with chocolate. Since icing does not set hard and Rice crispy treats are a finger food, using icing makes it too messy to eat.
