Butterscotch or caramel slice and bake cookie

I used to have a recipe but it was lost in the mists of time. Do I simply substitute brown sugar for white in a sugar cookie?

By “slice” cookie I assume you are referring to an icebox cookie. Yes, essentially a butterscotch cookie is just a sugar cookie made with brown sugar.
