How does one make hibiscus flowers?

I've been hinting to my family that I'd like a sandcastle cake for my birthday, and I picture it with hibiscus flowers at the base. Does anyone have instructions for making hibiscus flowers? Frosting, fondant, gum paste or sugar, it's all good.

Have you considered using a candied version of the actual flower? I goggled it for you in case you were interested. It could look pretty.
