Can someone please tell me the difference in Sweetex Gold and plain Sweetex? I make cakes a lot and have heard that Sweetex makes beautiful icing. I have read a lot of reviews about Sweetex that say to only use Sweetex for icing and not the Sweetex for icing and cakes. Can someone help me?

    Thanks so much.

Federal law ban partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) in June 2018. The old Sweetex was PHO, and did not melt. The new formula is palm oil and melts. I personally do not believe in using shortening icing. Out of curiosity I purchased some palm reformulated Sweetex just to test it. To be honest Crisco works better than the reforumlated Sweetex. Not that I would use Crisco, but to give you an idea of its stability.

The other Sweetex they have is made of soybean. I have not tried it, so I cannot tell you how it performs.
