Hello all, new poster here.
I am trying to decide what to do as far as a stand mixer, I currently have two, but I’m thinking about picking up something new.
my wife and I received a KitchenAid artisan for our wedding gift in 2005 from my grandmother. I was very excited to see it, I bake, and my wife does not. In fact, she does no cooking whatsoever. It functioned perfectly for several years until it started making a clicking noise. I thought that it was gear related since one of my cookie batches was pretty thick. I decided that I was going to replace it so I picked up a Breville bakery chef. I was going to give the KitchenAid to my mother-in-law, but I wanted to fix it first and I found it had nothing to do with the gear, the gears looked perfect. It ended up being a small electrical contact in the back, a plate that moves. It somehow got bent, and when I put it back into position to click was completely gone. I still lent it to my mother-in-law and she uses it about twice a year, if that.
I was diagnosed about eight years ago with celiac disease which completely killed my bread baking. As the years have progressed, I have done pretty well with gluten-free cookie recipes, my wife’s favorite is monkey bread and I do things like cinnamon rolls. I would really like to get back into bread making and do some killer sourdoughs. I’m hoping here will be a treasure trove of some gluten-free recipes.
Anyways, back to the mixer. I’ve been extremely pleased with the Breville, but I have one major issue with it. I was cleaning the glass bowl and it slipped out of my hands, landed at the bottom of the sink and cracked. For the life of me I am not able to find a replacement bowl. I find it odd that for a model that is still current you can’t get a bowl. I know I’m not the only one that has broken the bowl, so now I am left with the relatively small steel bowl. I need something bigger, I am always maxing it out with cookie recipes. This machine will get a lot of use, especially around the holidays. I have 3 year old twins that love the baking around the holidays! Does anyone happen to know where you can get a replacement bowl for the Breville?
My mother-in-law asked if she could possibly borrow one of the mixers back. Do I keep the KitchenAid and lend her the Breville with the small bowl? Or do I give her the KitchenAid back which she is comfortable with and used to and keep the Breville in hopes that I might be able to someday find a replacement bowl???
Another option is to potentially get a new mixer. I was looking at the Ankarsrum, but I read some things like it gets time to get used to adjusting the arms where they are supposed to be, and you kinda have to watch it. So I am not sure if that’s the one for me. I have also taking a very serious look at the new spiral mixer from Ooni. I know that would be my wife’s pick due to the fact that it looks sleek. I have to say that it looks very nice. Though, how does it mixing action work with gluten-free dough?
I’m hoping to get suggestions on what to do, I will use the mixer far more than my mother-in-law and I always love having a new gadget
edit: one thing I forgot to mention, my concerns about the Ooni. With it being such a new device, I question longevity. Has anyone opened it up to look at the build quality?
Thank you,
Dan
