Depends…while its best to use parchment paper since it can withstand temperatures up to 425°F, wax paper is safe to use if it completely covered with a batter or dough. For example, if it is used to line the bottom of a cake pan, then the batter poured over it, wax paper will hold up.

Wax paper is coated with either food grade paraffin wax or carnauba wax. We actually ingest food grade carnauba and paraffins as it is used in candy coatings (e.g.., M&M’s, jelly beans, skittles); to coat fresh fruit like apples and citrus; to encase cheese.

Of course! As someone who loves baking, I totally get your dilemma. Here's the deal with wax paper in the oven: it's a no-go. That stuff can't handle the heat and might even start a fire!

Your best bet for lining pans in the oven is parchment paper or silicone baking mats. They won't melt or cause any kitchen disasters. If you're out of those, aluminum foil works too, just be careful with acidic foods.

So, in short: wax paper is for wrapping sandwiches, not for baking. Stick to parchment paper or foil, and you'll be golden!
