We label our products with labels we order online, I was wondering what kind of in house labeling equipment we might be able to use and if anyone is barcoding etc. We want to change up a few items or make a special recipe of something and ordering labels is expensive?

Research barcoding (inventory) software for small businesses. What you need depends on your business needs and the software you buy. But a computer and printer, and a scanner are the basics to run software.

You may want to consider investing in a thermal label printer for in-house labeling.

Some popular models include Zebra and DYMO printers. To generate barcodes, you can use software such as Barcode Label Printing Software. This can save you money on label orders and allow you to customize labels for special recipes.

You might want to look into getting an in-house label printer like the Brother QL-820NWB or Dymo LabelWriter 450. These are affordable and allow you to print custom labels on demand, which can save you money compared to ordering labels online. If you need barcodes, these printers can handle that too. For larger volumes, a thermal printer like the Zebra GK420d might be a good investment. While there’s an upfront cost, it could be worth it if you’re frequently changing products or making special recipes.

If you’re looking to bring labeling in-house and save on costs, there are a few options you might consider.

  1. Label Printers: Investing in a good quality label printer can be a game changer. Thermal printers, like those from Brother or Dymo, are popular for their durability and quality. They can handle barcodes, logos, and various label sizes.
  2. Label Design Software: Pair your printer with design software like Avery Design & Print or Adobe Illustrator. This will allow you to customize labels for different products and recipes.
  3. Barcode Printers: If you need barcoding, look into dedicated barcode printers. They often come with software to help generate and manage barcodes.
  4. Label Applicators: Depending on your volume, a manual or semi-automatic label applicator might save you time and ensure consistent placement.
  5. Cutting and Finishing Equipment: For custom shapes or sizes, consider a cutting machine like a Cricut or a laser cutter.
It might be worth doing a cost comparison between in-house equipment and ordering labels to see how long it would take to break even. Hope this helps, and good luck with your labeling project!
