Hi, I interested in making donuts soon and my absolute favorite flavor is Boston cream. In the past I have made many different recipes of custards, crème anglaise, pastry cream etc… and it’s really not the flavor I’m trying to go for in a donut. I have looked it up and found that commercial cream fillings are actually made with very different ingredients than homemade ones, which explains why I like donut shop Boston cream fillings but not homemade. Does anyone know how I could go about making a commercial like Boston cream filling? For example, here are a couple ingredients lists for some online:

Filling (Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup, Modified Food Starch, Canola Oil, Fully Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, Salt, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Titanium Dioxide (Color), Sodium Benzoate (To Maintain Freshness), Phosphoric Acid, Polysorbate 60, Potassium Sorbate (To Maintain Freshness), Yellow 5, Yellow 6),

Water, high fructose corn syrup, food starch-modified, corn syrup, vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated soy and cottonseed), salt, sugar,
artificial color including yellow 5 & 6, artificial flavor, agar, sodium benzoate,

Thank you

There are no flavors in the examples you posted. Sugar is the only ingredient resembling flavor, and in my view sugar is not a flavor. “artificial flavor” is not real. Those examples are unappealing to me.

Buy some donuts you like, eat them and learn to discern the flavors. Vanilla and egg should be noticeable.

Vanilla pastry cream is what I would use for creme donut filling.
