Hi,

I am looking to make jars of hard fudge for my wedding favours. I just can't work out if I need to sterilise the jars before using them for the hard fudge? Any ideas?

Yes, it's advisable to sterilize the jars before using them for hard fudge as it helps prevent bacterial contamination and ensures the fudge stays fresh longer. You can sterilize by boiling the jars in hot water for 10 minutes or using the oven at 275°F (135°C) for 20 minutes.

Let them air dry before filling with your delicious fudge for wedding favors.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! For your hard fudge, it's a good idea to sterilize the jars before using them. Even though fudge is dense and has a lot of sugar, which helps preserve it, starting with clean, sterilized jars ensures the best quality and shelf life for your favours. To sterilize the jars, wash them thoroughly and then place them in a preheated oven at 225°F (110°C) for about 10 minutes, making sure they’re completely dry before filling them. If your lids are metal, you can sterilize them too, but be careful with plastic lids as they might warp in the oven. Good luck with your fudge-making and enjoy the wedding!
