There will be only 5, maybe 6 of us this year and I think I'm crazy for all the food we are making!
I guess I won't have to cook for a while though!! Yummy leftover turkey sandwiches!! Well, at least for a few
days until everyone is tired of them!!! LOL!!
Happy Thanksgiving to you all too! :)

Thank you. I wish all the best Thanksgiving. Family and being grateful is the best part of the Holiday. Yes the food is great, and the trimmings make us sleepy, but all goes together well.

This will be the first I wont see all my kids. They have family obligations. Oh how i miss the days, when they were all young, rambunctious and simply loving.

This is truly a very active week having to get everything done for Thanksgiving day, so I really thank you too, and wish you all the best in this Thanksgiving day, besides sharing with you this poem from the 19th century poet John Greenleaf Whittier.

The Pumpkin

Oh, greenly and fair in the lands of the sun,
The vines of the gourd and the rich melon run,
And the rock and the tree and the cottage enfold,
With broad leaves all greenness and blossoms all gold,
Like that which o'er Nineveh's prophet once grew,
While he waited to know that his warning was true,
And longed for the storm-cloud, and listened in vain
For the rush of the whirlwind and red fire-rain.

On the banks of the Xenil the dark Spanish maiden
Comes up with the fruit of the tangled vine laden;
And the Creole of Cuba laughs out to behold
Through orange-leaves shining the broad spheres of gold;
Yet with dearer delight from his home in the North,
On the fields of his harvest the Yankee looks forth,
Where crook-necks are coiling and yellow fruit shines,
And the sun of September melts down on his vines.

Ah! on Thanksgiving day, when from East and from West,
From North and from South comes the pilgrim and guest;
When the gray-haired New Englander sees round his board
The old broken links of affection restored,
When the care-wearied man seeks his mother once more,
And the worn matron smiles where the girl smiled before,
What moistens the lip and what brightens the eye?
What calls back the past, like the rich Pumpkin pie?

Oh, fruit loved of boyhood! the old days recalling,
When wood-grapes were purpling and brown nuts were falling!
When wild, ugly faces we carved in its skin,
Glaring out through the dark with a candle within!
When we laughed round the corn-heap, with hearts all in tune,
Our chair a broad pumpkin,—our lantern the moon,
Telling tales of the fairy who travelled like steam
In a pumpkin-shell coach, with two rats for her team!

Then thanks for thy present! none sweeter or better
E'er smoked from an oven or circled a platter!
Fairer hands never wrought at a pastry more fine,
Brighter eyes never watched o'er its baking, than thine!
And the prayer, which my mouth is too full to express,
Swells my heart that thy shadow may never be less,
That the days of thy lot may be lengthened below,
And the fame of thy worth like a pumpkin-vine grow,
And thy life be as sweet, and its last sunset sky
Golden-tinted and fair as thy own Pumpkin pie!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone that celebrates it. Here in Ireland we don't celebrate it but I am thankful every day for everything that I have, there is people out there that have very little to barely nothing.

Happy Thanksgiving! Hubs is the big cook in our family so he did the whole spread for all 7 of us plus my mom and stepdad. He makes this sweet potato casserole that rocks! Hope you all had a great day!

Nice - mommykerrie! :) My husband cooks the turkey, stuffing and sweet potatoes.
He tried a new recipe and it was really good! Nice break from the marshmallow one! LOL
I made the cranberries, green bean casserole and mashed potatoes.
My daughter made some really cute candy turkeys. I'll post a picture when I get a chance.

What a weekend! After visiting with family on Thursday, hubby and I carved up a 23.34 lb turkey and had the oven going, the stove going, the crockpot going.... we got at least 14 meals out of that bird. Freezer is stuffed, turkey breast in the frig for sandwiches.... wew. That was exhausting! LOL

Then I made on Saturday some brownie pies, brownies with oreo cookies, blueberry banana bread, lemon cranberry apple bread......and all of it is gone by passing out to friends and neighbors..... I am just too pooped to pop. I think I went through about 4 sets of kitchen towels getting things cleaned up.

Hope you all had a fabulous time, and now on to Christmas baking!

WOW Christine!!!!! I want to come to your house for food!!! You are a whirlwind!!! Made me tired just reading it. :)
We did a 15 lb turkey because we only had 6 people here this year. I made a casserole after the fact and it is almost
gone. I froze what was left of the turkey. We didn't have much leftover for pies or anything. :(
I am going to make chocolate chip cookies today. My kids have been asking! :)
