Tonite, we went out for hamburgers at Frizzles. They have a Senior special on Tuesdays, and you can get a cheeseburger, fries, drink, and ice cream dessert, all for $2.99. It is a regular size cheeseburger, with all the fixin's and for a fast food place, an excellent burger.

So, while I was dipping my french fries in the ketchup, I started thinking about the good old days, when french fries were actually made right there at the hamburger drive-in, and made from freshly cut potatoes.
How I loved those fries ! Sometimes, they were just a little underdone, and I liked them even better then, when they were kind of crunchy.

The ones now are made from cooked, processed, frozen molded potatoes, and they just don't hold even a faint candle to those we used to get that were freshly made.
One place even had a circular potato cutter, and that was where I had my first taste of a "curly fry".

I know 2 places that still makes it's fries from potatoes sliced on site and they are so nice. Sometimes I make my own at home but don't like deep frying so I just toss them with olive oil and bake the on a sheet. Much better than frozen cooked fries.

We make fresh fries at home at least once a month. We used to make them in the Fry Daddy but I found that they were mushy. Now we cut them up and lay them on a baking sheet, sprinkle on our spices and drizzle them with olive oil. They then go in the oven for 45 minutes and then get broiled for 5 extra minutes. They turn out perfect each time!

I love homemade fries! I normally just do what Tina Nord said; I cut them up, drizzle them with oil, cover them in spices and bake them. It's a tad bit healthier than frying them, plus it just takes good that way!!

I'm too lazy to cut up potatoes by hand, so I still buy bags of pre cut fries and deep fry them. When I was in my 20's and had more energy, I used to cut potatoes by hand.
Now that I'm older and running a single parent household, I'm usually too tired and hungry to do everything in the kitchen by hand.

I've actually never made French fries with real potatoes, but you guys make me want to give it a try! I was born in 1989, so I think I'm too young to remember French fries that are freshly made, I've probably never tried it. My mom never made us fries at home, and we didn't go out to eat that much!

My mom always made French fries from fresh potatoes. But back then, more stuff was made from scratch. Sometimes we'd go for soft and fluffy big fries, sometimes we'd go for darker crispier ones. Quite often we made these for a snack when we were going to sit down and watch a murder mystery together.

I was supposed to be in the garden today, getting my potato tubs planted, but it's raining, so today is baking day. Just don't know yet what I will be baking.

Oh, the thought of a fresh pulled potato turned into fries... heavenly.

I was born in 1988, but I definitely remember homemade French fries! My mom used to only make them homemade...well, most of the time, anyway. I also remember she used to only make homemade mashed potatoes, even when all of my friends' parents always ate the kind from the pouch or box! ;)

I had no idea potatoes could come out of a box for the first 20 years of my life. I do keep a box on hand now for making bread but they are a poor replacement for mashed potatoes.

Homemade french fries are so delicious.

However, our oven doesn't have a broiler so, they're not as good as they could be.

At some point we are going to buy a convection oven and I'll have a broiler again. My mother always asks me what I need a broiler for, since I complain about not having one all the time. Well, duh, fries for one!

I remember I used to have a potato slicer that made french fries. it had little squares in a grate pattern, and you just pushed it down over the washed potato, and then you have these long square strips of potatoes. We didn't have a deep fryer at home, so I would just put some oil in the frying pan, and then pan fry them. They were a little different from actual deep-fried french fries, but they were still delicious, and easy to make.
I have heard about baking them instead, but have never tried doing that, and it sounds like the potatoes would be both tasty and nutritious cooked that way.

I saw one of those once. I thought about buying one, but I've always done just fine with my chef's knife. We always fry them in oil in the frying pan too. I would like to invest in a deep fryer, but I'm afraid I'll start frying stuff more if I do.

I have not made sweet potato fries, nor have I tried them. I know I should because they're supposed to be so much better for you, but I always assume I won't like them. Any thoughts?

I grew to love potatoes because I had no choice- peeling a thousand potatoes a day will do that to you. Then I learned all the yummy things you could do with them because my head chef put me in charge of the potato dishes, haha.

Oven-baked fries were so popular at our restaurant that I was always kept running back and forth. They were so simple to make too, especially since we never peeled them. Just cut them as thick or as thin as you'd like and put them in the oven to bake. For flavor, mix up some spices or dried herbs with olive oil and give them a good toss, or just give them a touch of color with salt, pepper and tomato paste.

I agree that homemade fries are the best. It's hard to go back to the frozen fries when you've had the fresh homemade ones.
There was a chain of old fashioned burger joints called Mel's Diner. They made homemade fries and old fashioned ice cream shakes served in a stainless steel cup.

We used to make homemade french fries at home all the time. Those are some of my most fondest memories growing up! :) I think that's why I absolutely love french fries! I can pretty much eat them anytime of the day and never get tired of them. They're not the healthiest thing to eat so sometimes I prefer to bake them, but you just can't beat a delicious hamburger and good old fashioned french fries. Awe!

I love to make home made french fries. They are so good and you can slice them how ever you want I make them on a regular basis. There is always a bag of potatoes in the house because there are so many things that you can do with potatoes like making fries. I make them and add salt, pepper and ketchup.
