Start with basic piping tools like a few round tips and piping bags. Use royal icing, which dries hard and is great for detailed designs. Practice on parchment paper first to get the hang of controlling the icing flow. Make sure your icing is thick enough to hold its shape but still pipeable. Watch some online tutorials for tips and techniques, and remember to let each layer of icing dry before adding more details.
