Please help me. I have a fabulous memory of my Mum's Victoria sponge. It didn't rise much but it was very yellow, very moist, rich and absolutely delicious. I so want to recreate it. I've tried so many different recipes ( ended up too pale dry and tasteless) and someone suggested I was really looking for something closer to a Madeira cake - or a hybrid of the two. Can anybody help me please! thanks.

Welcome to the forum, great to have you here! :)

What was the texture like? Sounds like it might have been quite heavy, is that right?

Yes it was heavier than a usual pale Victoria sandwich - but so moist and buttery. It didn't matter that it wasn't too light - it was so delicious. when I saw some of the Madeira cakes on the first week of bake off they looked similar. thanks.
