I have an old can of almond paste. I think it should be thrown out but my husband said it’s still good even with an expired best by date. How old is too old to be unsafe?

Almonds, like most nuts, have natural oils. The oils oxidize and go rancid. Almond paste, like most nut pastes, have a very short shelf life for this reason. If your husband has any doubt, just open the can and have him sample it.

Rancid almond paste will taste something like the way turpentine smells and have a sour smell.
