Hi all. Can anyone say what they think went wrong with my blueberry loaf. The recipe didn't ask for any raising agent so I decided to put 1 tsp of bicarb (there was yoghurt in the batter). It was solid over 3/4 from the bottom upwards with just about 1/2 inch of fluffy cake on the top. It looks like baked eggs/omelette ...... very heavy.

It sounds like the baking soda you added might have caused the issue. Baking soda reacts with the yogurt to create gas that helps the cake rise, but if there's too much or it's not balanced with the other ingredients, it can lead to a dense texture, which is why your loaf was heavy and only fluffy on top. Next time, you might want to stick to the recipe or use baking powder instead, which is more forgiving in these situations.
