I was given sourdough starter in the early 90's. I baked sourdough bread weekly for 25 years, without issue. I quit when all my children were out of the house. I am trying to start again. I have tried 2 recipes for sourdough starter. I have followed all the instructions. I cannot get the dough to rise when everything is mixed together.

I am open to suggestions.

If anyone in the Arlington, Tx area has sourdough starter and would be willing to share a cup or two, I would be very grateful.

It sounds like you’ve had great success with sourdough before, so I can see why this would be frustrating. Make sure your starter is active and bubbly, as it might need a bit of time and regular feedings to get back to its best. Also, check that you’re using quality flour, and ensure your kitchen is warm enough for the dough to rise. Adjusting the dough’s hydration and making sure you knead it well could also help. If you're still having trouble, you might want to try getting fresh starter from someone nearby.
