Scones made using baking soda!!!!!

My mum just made scones using wholemeal bread flour and baking soda instead of baking powder.
They are extremely sour, taste like poison
My son says how can you tell that it tastes like poison lol
Any ideas how to eat them? Finish them?
Can't make cake custard with it or eat them with jam, they are disgusting
Plz help
